Sufyan al-Thawri (may Allah have mercy on him) said one day to his companions:

"Tell me,

If among you was someone who transmitted whatever you said to the Sultan, would you have spoken out about anything?”

They said: No

So he said:

Then [know that] indeed with you are those who transmit your speech to Allah -Glorified and Exalted is He-!

{Not a word does he (or she) utter, but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it).} [Qaaf 50:18]

[3] Just as one would be watchful about speaking of matters that would cause him to be imprisoned or punished if with him was someone who would transmit that speech to the people of authority, similarly they should be more fearful and watchful of Allah as all what is said and done is raised to Him, and He knows all that occurs.

Imam Ibn Juzayy al-Kalbi (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his Tafseer, under the verse:

{But the chiefs of those who disbelieved among his people said: "He is no more than a human being like you, he seeks to make himself superior to you. Had Allah willed, He surely could have sent down angels; never did we hear such a thing among our fathers of old} Al-Moeminun 23:24

Ibn Juzayy said: {He is no more than a human} They thought it far fetched that Prophethood could be in a human, so how astonishing of them that they believed that divinity could be in a stone!

Sh. al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah shower him with Mercy) said:

"And if he finds someone who is in dire need of the water that is with him, then he should give it to him to drink and perform Tayamum instead,

And whoever performs Ghusl or ablution and there is someone who is in dire need [of this water] from the people of the Millah (our Religion) or from the people of the Dhimmah (non-Muslims), or [even] their animals whose sanctity is preserved, yet does not quench their thirst then he is a disobedient sinner!"

During the time of Jahiliya, a man from among the Arab whenever he would see another being unjust and oppressing others, he would say: “So-and-so will never have a normal death”, and it would be as he says.

One time a man, who he had said this about, died so he was told: So-and-so died and had a normal death.

He did not accept that [news at first], until the same matter was reported by many [different people affirming this].

So he said:

If you are Truthful [in what you said], then there shall be an abode other than this you are in (i.e. other than the Dunia) in which you will be [judged and] recompensed in!

It is narrated that a man once asked Bilal (may Allah be well pleased with him) as Bilal was approaching from the direction of the race track, he asked: Who was victorious?

So Bilal (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: Those who will be nearest to Allah.

So the questioner said: I was asking you about the horses.

Bilal said: And I answered you with [what will bring you] good!

Al-Hussein ibn Ali (peace upon him) said (addressing his killers):

"Is it right for you to kill the likes of me, when I am the son of the daughter of your Messenger, and there is no one on the face of this earth who is the son of a daughter of a Messenger [of God] except me?!" [1, 3]

Shaykh al-Islam ibn Taymiyah (may Allah shower him with Mercy) said:

"As for he who killed al-Hussein, or assisted in his killing, or was pleased by it, then upon him is the curse of Allah, and His Angels, and the people altogether." [2-3]

Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that:

When Allah’s Apostle (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) distributed some grants to [the people of] Quraish and [among some] other Arab tribes, the Ansar did not receive anything from it, so they [were disappointed] and felt saddened [because of this].

Some words started to go around about that, till one of them said: By Allah, the Messenger of Allah (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) has met his people (i.e. he has reconciled with them and forgotten about us).

Saad ibn ‘Ubada (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah and said: O Allah’s Apostle, this group from among the Ansar are [feeling] sad within themselves about what you have done with the spoils which you have acquired, where you divided for your people (i.e. the tribe of Quraish) and gave great grants to numerous Arab tribes, but did not give anything for this group of the Ansar.

The Prophet said: And how do you feel about this, O Saad?

He said: O Allah’s Apostle, I am just one of them.

The Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said: So gather for me your people in this place.

So Saad left, and gathered the Ansar in that place. Some of the Muhajirun came and he allowed them to enter, and others came after them but he didn’t allow them. When they were assembled, Saad went to the Messenger of Allah and said: Those people of Al-Ansar have assembled for you.

So Allah’s Apostle came to them.

He praised Allah and glorified Him duly, then he said:

O people of the Ansar, what have I heard about you, and about the sadness you felt among yourselves [for not receiving a share of the spoils]?

Didn’t I come to you and you were astray then Allah guided you, and you were poor and Allah enriched you, and you were enemies to one another but Allah joined your hearts together?

They said: Yes, and Allah and His Messenger are more in their favours and better.

Then he said:

Do you not reply back to me, O people of the Ansar?

They said: And by what can we answer you O Allah’s Apostle, and truly the Allah and His Messenger and more in their bounties and better?

He (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

By Allah, if you wished you could have said, and you would have been truthful in it and would have been believed, that: You came to us accused of being a liar but we believed you, and you came to us forsaken and we supported you, and you came to us as a refugee and we sheltered you, and you came to us poor and we aided you.

Did you feel saddened, O Ansar, for a trifle of this worldly life that I used to reconcile the hearts of some people [to Islam] and entrusted you to your faith? Would it not please you, O Ansar, that the people return back to their homes with sheep and camel, and you go back to your homes with the Messenger of Allah? By He whom Muhammad’s soul is in His Hand, had it not been for the Hijra I would have been one of the Ansar, and if the people [altogether] take a way and the Ansar take another, I would take the way of the Ansar.

O Allah have mercy on the Ansar, and sons of the Ansar, and the sons of the sons of the Ansar!

[Upon hearing this] the people wept bitterly till they wet their beards, and they said: “We are pleased with the Messenger of Allah as our share and fortune”, then Allah’s Apostle went back and we left [1-3].

Love of the Ansar

Abu Ja’far [Al-Mansour] –the Caliph- took hold of the garment of al-Thawri, and directed his face to the Ka’bah and asked him:

“By the Lord of this structure, what kind of man did you find me?”

So Al-Thawri answered: “By the Lord of this structure, I found you to be the worst of people!”

And he pushed his hand away. [1][2]
