Abu Bakr al-Tarsousi said:

Na’eem ibn Hamad (may Allah have mercy on him) was arrested during the days of the Minha in the year of 223 or 224H, [chained,] and thrown in prison, and died in it in the year of 227H.

He stated in his will that he is to buried in his shackles, and said: I shall stand as their opponent in front of Allah on the day of Judgment.

قال أحمد بْن مُحَمَّد بْن سهل الخالدي : سمعت أبا بكر الطرسوسي يَقُولُ: أخذ نعيم بن حماد فِي أيام المحنة سنة ثلاث أو أربع وعشرين ومئتين وألقوه فِي السجن، ومات فِي سنة سبع وعشرين ومئتين، وأوصى أن يدفن فِي قيوده وَقَال: إني مخاصم.
