A man once told Salem ibn Abdillah [1] (May Allah shower him with Mercy): You Scholar of evil!

So Salem (May Allah shower him with Mercy) said to him: I do not see you are far off [from the truth], my brother [2].


[1] He is Salem ibn Abdillah ibn Umar ibn Al-Khattab (died 106H), he was one of the Fuqaha of the Tabi’een. Known for his zuhd, piety, and knowledge. Imam Malik said of him: There was no one during the time of Salem more similar to the earlier generation than him
