Imagine if banks withdrew money from our accounts whenever we backbit or spoke ill of anyone … then deposited it in that person’s bank account!

What would we have done?

We would surely have remained silent about other people in order to safeguard our wealth.

Why then is our perishing wealth more valuable to us than our good deeds?!

Prophet Muhammad [Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him] said to his companions once: Do you know who is bankrupt?

They replied: A bankrupt man amongst us is one who has neither a dirham with him nor wealth.

He [Peace and Blessings of Allah upon be him] said: The bankrupt man of my Ummah is he who comes on the Day of Resurrection with Prayers and Fasts and Zakah, but would come while having hurled abuse upon others, slandered others, unlawfully consumed the wealth of others, shed the blood of others, and beat others.

His Good deeds would be credited to the account of those [who suffered at his hand], and if his good deeds fall short to clear his debt, their sins would be thrown into [his account] and then he would be thrown in the Hell-Fire”

Narrated by Muslim, Ahmad, and al-Tirmidhi from the way of Abu Huraira [May Allah be pleased with him]
